why earth is called blue planet

Earth is called the "blue planet" because it appears blue from space. This is because about 71% of Earth's surface is covered in water, and the oceans and seas reflect blue light from the sun.
The atmosphere also contributes to the blue color of the planet. The Earth's atmosphere scatters sunlight in all directions and blue light is scattered more than other colors because it travels as shorter, smaller waves. This means that when we look at the Earth from space, the blue light that has been scattered by the atmosphere dominates what we see.
So, the combination of Earth's large bodies of water and its atmospheric scattering of sunlight makes it appear blue, hence earning the nickname "blue planet".
